digress
1. v. (intransitive) To step or turn aside; to deviate; to swerve; especially, to turn aside from the main subject of attention, or course of argument, in writing or speaking.
2. v. (intransitive) To turn aside from the right path; to transgress; to offend.

Example Sentences

I didn't mean to digress.  Unlike commas or dashes, brackets seal off a thought or fact and so let characters digress from their own thoughts.
