1. v. to put, place, set

2. v. to leave (something)
私を一人にしておいてください。 - Please leave me alone.
3. v. (following a て-form verb) to do something in advance as preparation
今晩%凍り付くかもしれませんので鉢植えを玄関に移しておきます。 - Since it might freeze this evening, I'll move the potted plants into the foyer.
4. v. (following a て-form verb) to do and keep in that state
目を開けておくのよ。 - Keep your eyes open.
5. v. Usage: * 置く as used in sense 3 and 4 is usually written in hiragana as おく.
